How We Built Snapplet — The Story Behind the Studio

Ours started with watching small business owners do things the hard way — not because they wanted to, but because no one had built them the right tool.

The problem we kept seeing

Working with small businesses, I kept noticing the same patterns. Owners running critical operations in spreadsheets held together with formulas no one fully understood. Teams doing the same manual tasks every day because there was no better system. Business owners paying for software that did 80% of what they needed — and building workarounds for the other 20%.

These weren't failing businesses. They were good businesses, run by smart people, who just didn't have access to the right tools.

The problem wasn't that they were too small for custom software. It was that custom software had always felt out of reach — too expensive, too slow, too risky for a business without a technical team.

What we decided to do about it

Snapplet Co. was built around a simple idea: what if small businesses could get a custom app built for them quickly, affordably, and with ongoing support — without the enterprise price tag or the six-month development cycle?

Not a platform. Not a tool that tries to do everything. Just one focused app, built for the specific problem they're dealing with. Scoped properly, built well, delivered fast.

We call them micro apps.

What we've built so far

Before taking on client work, I spent time building apps for personal projects and proof-of-concept tools — everything from a geolocation video aggregator that plots content from YouTube, Reddit and Twitch on a 3D globe, to a full personal and business finance suite, a rebate management platform, a health tracking dashboard, an AI-powered lesson planner for teachers, and a private social network for internal company communications.

These projects weren't client work. But they were the proving ground — a way to build the skills and processes that let us deliver quality apps quickly.

What Snapplet is today

Snapplet Co. is a Toronto-based micro app development studio. We work with small businesses across Canada to find the workflow problems worth solving and build lightweight, custom apps to fix them.

Every engagement starts with a free discovery call. We listen, scope the problem, and give you a clear price before anything gets built. Delivery in two to four weeks. Optional ongoing support after that.

We're currently offering founding client pricing — builds starting as low as $250 — for our first ten clients. In exchange, we ask for honest feedback and optional portfolio rights.
